Questions & Answers about Senin gibi kurnaz bir öğrenci görmedi.
Why is it senin gibi and not just sen gibi?
When using gibi (like) with personal pronouns, the pronoun almost always takes the genitive case. So, sen (you) becomes senin (your). This rule applies to most personal pronouns, giving us benim gibi, senin gibi, onun gibi, bizim gibi, and sizin gibi.
Why is bir placed after the adjective kurnaz instead of before it?
In Turkish, when a noun has both a descriptive adjective (kurnaz) and the indefinite article (bir), the standard word order is Adjective + bir + Noun. Saying bir kurnaz öğrenci would sound unnatural to a native speaker.
Since öğrenci is the direct object of the verb görmedi, why doesn't it have the accusative case ending?
We only use the accusative case ending (which would make it öğrenciyi) for specific direct objects, like when saying 'the student' or 'this student'. Because the sentence is about 'a' cunning student in general, it is an indefinite object and stays in its plain form.
