Questions & Answers about Şu yeni modelde indirim yok.
Why does the word for 'model' have -de at the end if the English translation says 'on'?
The suffix -de (or -da) is the locative case, which covers 'in', 'on', and 'at'. In Turkish, to say a discount applies to an item, we think of the discount as being located 'on' or 'at' that item, so model becomes modelde.
Why use şu for 'that' instead of o?
Both can mean 'that', but şu is usually used when you are physically pointing something out right in front of you, or drawing attention to it. O is generally used for things further away or things already established in the conversation.
If I wanted to ask 'Which model has no discount?', how would I use hangi here?
You would simply replace the specific pointing words (şu yeni) with the question word hangi. The question becomes Hangi modelde indirim yok? (On which model is there no discount?). Notice how the rest of the sentence structure stays exactly the same!
Why is yok at the very end of the sentence?
Words that express existence, like var (there is) and yok (there is not), act as the main verb of the sentence. In Turkish, the verb almost always goes at the very end.
