Questions & Answers about Sen kitap okuyorsun.
Why does the verb end in -sun?
The -sun is the personal suffix for "you" (singular). In the present continuous tense, the tense suffix -yor always has an "o". Because of Turkish vowel harmony rules, the personal suffix for "you" that follows -yor will always be -sun.
How is the -yor suffix attached to the verb oku?
The verb stem for "read" is oku-. When a verb stem already ends in the vowels ı, i, u, or ü, you just add -yor directly to it. Then you add the personal suffix -sun, making okuyorsun.
Do I need to say the word Sen?
No, you can leave it out! Because the -sun at the end of okuyorsun already means "you", saying Kitap okuyorsun is perfectly natural. You only need Sen if you want to emphasize that you (and not someone else) are reading.
The English translation says "a book", but there is no bir (a/an) in the Turkish sentence. Why?
In Turkish, when you talk about doing a general activity like reading books, you don't need bir. Putting the plain word kitap right before the verb is like saying "you are book-reading". You would only use bir kitap if you wanted to emphasize reading one single, unspecific book.
