Ben şimdi müdür müyüm?

Questions & Answers about Ben şimdi müdür müyüm?

How is the word müyüm built?
This is the core of the yes/no question! It combines the question particle and the personal ending üm (I am). Because you cannot put two vowels right next to each other in Turkish, a buffer letter y is added in the middle: + y + üm.
Why is the question particle here, instead of mi or mu?
It follows 4-way vowel harmony based on the word right before it (müdür). Since the last vowel in müdür is ü, the question particle also takes an ü.
Could I leave out the word Ben at the beginning?
Yes! The ending üm on müyüm already tells us the subject is 'I'. Including Ben just adds a bit of emphasis or surprise, like saying 'Am I the manager now?' instead of just asking a neutral question.
Why does the question piece come at the very end of the sentence?
In Turkish yes/no questions, the question particle comes immediately after the word you are questioning. Since you are asking about being the müdür (manager), the particle goes right after it. Also, because it carries the 'am I' meaning, it acts like the verb, which naturally sits at the end of a Turkish sentence.
