When evaluating the quality, value, or features of an item—such as a fine gemstone—you often need to specify the criteria you are looking at. To say "in terms of" or "from the perspective of" in Turkish, place the postposition açısından or bakımından immediately after a bare noun.
Evaluating with "açısından"
The word açısından comes from the root for "angle" or "perspective" (açı). Place it directly after the noun you are evaluating against:
- yatırım açısından (in terms of investment)
- kesim açısından (in terms of cut)
- berraklık açısından (in terms of clarity)
| Those who buy this jewel will be lucky in terms of investment. | Bu mücevheri alanlar, yatırım açısından şanslı olacak. |
| It turns out this brilliant-cut diamond was much more valuable in terms of cut. | Meğerse bu pırlanta, kesim açısından çok daha değerliymiş. |

Evaluating with "bakımından"
The word bakımından comes from the root for "look" or "regard" (bakım). It is used exactly like açısından and the two are generally interchangeable.
- renk bakımından (in terms of color)
- saflık bakımından (in terms of purity)
- karat bakımından (in terms of carat)
| I wonder how that brilliant-cut diamond is in terms of color? | Acaba şu pırlanta renk bakımından nasıl? |
| This gold is of very high quality in terms of purity. | Bu altın, saflık bakımından çok kalitelidir. |
| Those who buy will examine the brilliant-cut diamond in terms of carat. | Satın alanlar, pırlantayı karat bakımından inceleyecek. |
Combining Perspectives
To evaluate an item based on multiple criteria at once, join the nouns with ve (and) and use the postposition just once at the end of the list.
| These stones are very valuable in terms of carat and reflection. | Bu taşlar, karat ve yansıma açısından çok değerlidir. |
| The jewels at the exhibition will be unique in terms of reflection and elegance. | Sergideki mücevherler, yansıma ve zarafet bakımından benzersiz olacak. |
You can also contrast different aspects within the same sentence, using both words to avoid repetition.
| Those that are small in terms of carat will surpass the big ones in terms of elegance. | Karat açısından küçük olanlar, zarafet bakımından büyükleri geçecek. |
