Questions & Answers about รัฐบาล จะ ไม่ แทรกแซง ปัญหา นี้ นอกจากว่า จะ ไม่ มี ทางออก อื่น ครับ

English "unless" already implies a negative, but this sentence adds ไม่ after นอกจากว่า. Why?
This is a tricky difference in logic! นอกจากว่า translates closer to "except that" rather than a perfect English "unless." To say the government won't intervene unless there are zero alternatives, Thai phrases it literally as "except that there will not be another solution" (นอกจากว่า จะ ไม่ มี...). You have to explicitly state the negative situation you are making an exception for.
Why is there a second จะ (will) right after นอกจากว่า (unless)?
In English we usually drop the future tense in conditional clauses (saying "unless there is" rather than "unless there will be"). However, in Thai conditional sentences about the future, it is very common to keep จะ in both the main clause and the subordinate clause to reinforce that the condition is a future possibility.
How does the word ทางออก literally translate?
It literally translates to "way out" (ทาง = way/path, ออก = out). While it is heavily used for physical exit doors, it is also the standard metaphorical word for a "solution" to a problem or a way out of a difficult situation.
Why does อื่น (other) come after the noun instead of before it?
As a quick refresher on Thai word order, modifiers and adjectives almost always follow the noun they describe. The word อื่น (other) acts as a modifier here, so "other solution" must be ordered as "solution other" (ทางออก อื่น).
Can I use แทรกแซง (intervene) for everyday personal situations?
You can, but it sounds quite strong and formal. While it is the perfect word for governments, economies, or official disputes, using it about personal problems usually carries the heavier, more negative meaning of "interfering" or "meddling" in someone else's private business.
