Questions & Answers about นายกรัฐมนตรี หาเสียง ตลอด วัน เพื่อ ให้ ได้ มาก กว่า ร้อยละ ห้า สิบ
Why does ร้อยละ come before the number ห้าสิบ, unlike how we say fifty percent in English?
ร้อยละ literally means per hundred (ร้อย is hundred, ละ is per or each). It is the formal Thai way to express percentages and always goes before the number. If you used the informal loanword เปอร์เซ็นต์, you would place it after the number, just like in English: ห้าสิบเปอร์เซ็นต์.
The word หาเสียง translates to campaigned. What does this literally mean?
It literally translates to seeking voices (หา means to seek or look for, and เสียง means sound, voice, or vote). In a political context, เสียง refers to votes, so หาเสียง is the standard Thai verb for election campaigning or canvassing.
Why do we need ให้ in the phrase เพื่อให้ได้ (in order to get)? Couldn't we just say เพื่อได้?
While เพื่อ means for, เพื่อให้ is the complete conjunction used to mean in order to or so that. When expressing an intended outcome, Thai uses เพื่อให้ followed by the action or result. Here, it is followed by ได้, meaning to obtain or to get.
Why is the phrase ตลอดวัน used here instead of ทุกวัน?
ตลอดวัน means all day or throughout the day, emphasizing the continuous duration within a single day. If you used ทุกวัน, it would change the meaning to every day, which doesn't fit the context of a single long day of campaigning.
