When money and property are involved, family discussions can easily turn into heated debates (ถกเถียง). In Thai-Chinese families, disputes often revolve around the กงสี, which refers to the communal family fund or shared family business.

The Summarizing Marker: เอาเป็นว่า

When arguments go in circles, you need a way to cut through the chaos, summarize the situation, or propose a final compromise. Thai uses the discourse marker เอาเป็นว่า placed at the very beginning of a sentence to do exactly this.

Translating roughly to "let's just say that" or "the bottom line is," เอาเป็นว่า wraps up long-winded explanations and brings everyone's focus directly to the final point or proposed solution.

You will frequently hear เอาเป็นว่า at the start of a sentence paired with the particle ก็แล้วกัน at the end. Together, they soften the compromise and frame the statement as a final settlement or mutual agreement ("let's just settle on...").

Finding a Resolution

To finally end a dispute (ข้อพิพาท), someone usually has to step in to mediate (ไกล่เกลี่ย) or offer a concession out of deference to "save face" (เห็นแก่หน้า) for the family. You can use เอาเป็นว่า to firmly but diplomatically declare these final resolutions.
