Public recognition passive (เป็นที่)

The Public Recognition Passive (เป็นที่)

To show that someone or something is the object of widespread reception, place เป็นที่ (literally "to serve as a locus for") before a verb of emotion, cognition, or acceptance.

For example, combining it with the verb to know (รู้จัก) creates เป็นที่รู้จัก (to be widely known). This is often paired with terms describing fame (โด่งดัง) and influence (อิทธิพล).

Scrutiny and Observation

This structure is common in news and formal discourse. Combined with verbs like to criticize (วิพากษ์วิจารณ์) or to keep an eye on (จับตามอง), it marks a policy or person as the center of public attention.

Admiration, Favor, and Acclaim

For widespread positive reception, attach เป็นที่ to verbs like to favor (โปรดปราน), to acclaim (กล่าวขวัญ), or to admire (ชื่นชอบ).

When discussing public praise, this passive structure is frequently followed by ได้รับการขนานนามว่า (to receive the title of / to be dubbed) to highlight a specific status the public has given them.
