Questions & Answers about Hon presenterade de nya visionerna för två dagar sedan.
How do we know the gender and plural form of visionerna?
The base word vision ends in the international suffix -ion. Almost all Swedish loanwords ending in -ion (such as station or diskussion) are en words and take the plural ending -er. To make it definite plural here, we add -na to get visionerna.
Why do we need the word för in för två dagar sedan?
In Swedish, the English concept of "ago" is expressed with the two-part phrase för [amount of time] sedan. It wraps around the time period. Direct translation from English often tempts learners to just say två dagar sedan, but leaving out för is grammatically incorrect.
Does the double definiteness rule apply to loanwords like vision?
Yes, exactly! Even though vision is an international loanword, it fully adapts to standard Swedish grammar rules. Because it has the adjective nya attached, it requires the standalone plural article de, the definite adjective nya, and the definite noun suffix -na to form de nya visionerna.
How is the -sion part of visionerna pronounced?
