Questions & Answers about Vem är det som ska leda rollbesättningen?
Why use Vem är det som instead of just Vem ska leda?
Both mean 'Who will lead', but Vem är det som is an interrogative cleft construction. It is used to put special emphasis on the question word, similar to 'Who is it that...' in English. This structure is extremely common in spoken Swedish to strongly focus on the exact identity of the person.
Is it possible to drop som in this sentence?
No, you must keep som here. In Swedish, when the relative pronoun som acts as the subject of its clause (here, the person who will do the leading), it cannot be omitted. You are only allowed to drop som when it functions as the object of the clause.
What are the parts that make up the word rollbesättningen?
It is a compound word made from roll (role) and besättning (crew, staffing, or cast). The word besättning comes from the verb besätta, meaning to fill or occupy. The -en suffix makes it definite, giving us 'the casting' or 'the casting process'.
Why use ska leda instead of kommer att leda for the future tense here?
You use ska because leading the casting is a planned, deliberate action decided by people. You typically use kommer att for predictions or future events outside of human control, which wouldn't fit a scheduled professional task like this.
