Questions & Answers about Utrymmet är fritt och mycket kreativt.
Why is it fritt (with a double 't') instead of just frit?
Since utrymmet is an ett word, the adjective describing it needs a neuter ending. Normally, you just add -t. However, the base word fri (free) ends in a stressed vowel. When an adjective ends in a stressed vowel, Swedish requires adding -tt.
Why does kreativt only get a single 't' here when fritt gets two?
The base word kreativ ends in a consonant, so it follows the standard rule: just add one -t to match the ett word utrymmet. The double -tt rule only applies to adjectives that end in a stressed vowel, like fri.
The word for "the space" is utrymmet. What is the base form of this noun?
The base word is ett utrymme (a space). Because it is an ett word that already ends in a vowel, you only add -t to make it definite ("the space"), rather than the usual -et you would add to a consonant-ending word like ett hus (huset).
Can I use utrymmet to talk about outer space?
