Questions & Answers about Strålkastaren och filtret ska bytas.

How do we form the passive verb bytas in this sentence?

It is the passive infinitive of byta (to change). Since it follows the modal verb ska, we must use the infinitive form. To make it passive (meaning 'be changed' instead of 'change'), you simply add an -s to the active infinitive, giving us bytas.

Why is the definite form of filter spelled filtret instead of filteret?

Filter is an ett-word ending in -er. Words with this ending usually drop the final -e- in the stem before adding the definite suffix -et to make pronunciation smoother.

What does the word strålkastaren literally mean?

It is a compound word combining stråle (beam or ray) and kastare (thrower). So, a 'beam thrower' is a headlight or spotlight. Here it has the -n suffix because it is an en-word in the definite form ('the headlight').

Why use ska here instead of kommer att for the future tense?

While kommer att is used for future predictions, ska is used when there is an intention, plan, or obligation. In this context, ska bytas means they are scheduled or required to be changed, similar to 'are to be changed' in English.
