Questions & Answers about Han översätter orden mycket snabbare i den här texten.

Why is it den här texten instead of den här text?

In Swedish, pointing words like den här (this) or den där (that) must be followed by the definite form of the noun. Since text is an en-word, it becomes texten. This creates the typical double definite pattern, literally translating to 'this here the text'.

Why is 'the words' translated as orden?

Ord is an ett-word that ends in a consonant (ett ord). These types of words do not change in the indefinite plural (one word = ett ord, several words = flera ord). To make the plural definite ('the words'), you add the suffix -en, resulting in orden.

Is översätter a separable verb? Can I say 'han sätter orden över'?

No, översätta (to translate) is an inseparable compound verb. While Swedish has many particle verbs where the preposition can move around, översätta must always stay together as one word. (Note that sätta över is a different phrase that means to transfer or cross over).

How does the word snabbare get its ending?

To make the comparative form of most adjectives, Swedish adds the suffix -are. So snabb (fast) becomes snabbare (faster). You can place mycket (much) right in front of it, exactly as you do in English to say 'much faster'.
