Questions & Answers about Jag tycker att det är viktigt att nätverka i branschen.
Why do we use tycker here instead of tror or tänker?
In Swedish, tycker is used when expressing a subjective opinion, like in this sentence. If you were guessing or stating a belief about a fact, you would use tror. Tänker refers to the actual cognitive process of thinking in your head.
Why are there two instances of att in this sentence, and are they pronounced the same?
They do two different jobs! The first att is a conjunction meaning "that" (I think that). The second att is an infinitive marker meaning "to" (important to network). In casual spoken Swedish, the second one is almost always pronounced as "å", while the first one is often pronounced as it is spelled.
Why does viktigt end in a "t" here?
The adjective must agree with the subject of its clause. Here, the subject is the dummy pronoun det (it), which is a neuter word. Because of this, the base adjective viktig takes the neuter -t ending to become viktigt.
How does the word nätverka work grammatically here?
Just like in English, the noun for network (ett nätverk) has been turned into a verb: att nätverka (to network). It follows the very common Group 1 verb pattern, meaning it is regular and ends in -a in both the infinitive and the present tense.
