Questions & Answers about Sjön är inte lika djup idag som igår.
How do we say "as... as" in Swedish based on this sentence?
To say two things are equal (or not equal, like in this sentence), we use lika + adjective + som. Here, lika djup som means "as deep as". You can think of lika as the first "as" and som as the second "as".
Why is the adjective djup used here instead of djupt or djupa?
Adjectives in comparisons still have to match the noun they describe! Because Sjön (the lake) is a singular "en" word, we use the basic form djup. If we were talking about an "ett" word like havet (the ocean), it would be lika djupt som.
Can I use än instead of som here?
No, because we are using lika (as... as), which always pairs with som. You only use än (than) when using a comparative adjective ending in "-are", like if you said the lake was deeper than yesterday (djupare än igår).
What is the root word for Sjön?
The base word is en sjö (a lake). Because it already ends in a vowel, we just add -n to make it the definite form Sjön (the lake).
