The singular word for a cable is en kabel. Because it ends in an unstressed -el, it drops that e when we add the plural ending -ar. This dropping of the vowel is called syncopation, and you will also see it in words like cykel (bicycle), which becomes cyklar in the plural.

Why do we use alla here instead of all or allt?
