Questions & Answers about Vi kan lyfta pallen nu.
Why is it lyfta and not lyfter here?
Because it follows the modal verb kan (can). Just like in English, when you use a modal verb, the main verb takes its basic infinitive form. So we use kan lyfta (can lift) instead of the present tense lyfter (lifts/is lifting).
Why is "the pallet" translated as pallen?
The base word is en pall (a pallet). In Swedish, the definite article is a suffix attached to the end of the noun. Since it is an en-word, we add -en to get pallen.
How would I say "lift the pallet IN" using the adverbs from this lesson?
You would use the directional adverb in rather than the positional inne. Because lifting the pallet means you are moving it to a new destination, you would say: Vi kan lyfta in pallen nu.
Does en pall only mean a shipping "pallet"?
No, en pall is also the standard Swedish word for a "stool" or "footstool". You will frequently hear it used at home or in schools when someone needs an extra seat.
