Questions & Answers about Jag älskar det nya modet, men inte stilen.
Why do we need det before nya modet?
In Swedish, when you use an adjective with a definite noun, you must use double definiteness. This means you need the standalone definite article (det for an ett-word like mode), the definite form of the adjective (nya), and the definite suffix on the noun (modet).
Is mode an en-word or an ett-word?
It is an ett-word: ett mode. That is why it takes det and becomes modet in the definite form. Even though it ends in an -e, which is common for en-words, international loanwords like mode are often ett-words.
How would I say 'I love such fashion' using the grammar from this lesson?
Because mode is an ett-word, you would use sådant. The phrase becomes: Jag älskar sådant mode. Notice that after sådan, sådant, or sådana, the noun drops the definite ending and stays in the indefinite form!
Why doesn't stilen have an extra word like den in front of it, the way modet has det?
