Questions & Answers about Har de kommit till hotellet?
Why does the verb end in -it here to make kommit?
kommit is the supine form of the verb komma (to come). Because komma belongs to Group 4 (strong, irregular verbs), it forms the supine by adding -it to the stem rather than the regular -t or -at endings you see in other verb groups. You use this form after har (have) or hade (had).
Is de pronounced exactly how it is spelled here?
No, in everyday spoken Swedish, the word de (they) is almost always pronounced as dom. It is a good habit to read it aloud as dom even when you see it written as de.
Why do we use till instead of a preposition like på?
We use till because this sentence involves movement toward a destination (coming to the hotel). You would use på if you were talking about being located at the hotel without moving toward it, such as staying or eating there.
Why is it hotellet and not just hotell?
hotellet means the hotel. Because hotell is an ett word (a neuter noun), you add -et to the end of the word to make it definite.
