Questions & Answers about Vi vill också komma.
Why is the second verb komma and not kommer?
Because vill is a modal verb. When you use a modal verb, the main verb that follows it must be in its basic infinitive form, which usually ends in -a. So we use komma (to come) instead of the present tense kommer (comes/is coming).
Why is there no Swedish word for 'to' between vill and komma?
In English, we say 'want to come', but Swedish modal verbs connect directly to the next verb without needing the word att (to). You just put the two verbs together: vill komma.
Does vill mean 'will' in English?
No, this is a very common false friend! The Swedish word vill always means 'want to' or 'wants to'. If you want to say 'will' to talk about the future, you use a different word like ska.
Why does också come in the middle of the sentence?
In Swedish main clauses, short adverbs like också (also/too) and inte (not) usually go right after the first verb. So instead of putting it at the end like we do with 'too' in English, it goes right after vill.
