Questions & Answers about Kan du komma snart?
Why is the verb komma used here instead of kommer?
Since we are using the modal verb kan (can), the main verb that follows it must be in its infinitive (dictionary) form. Just like in English where we say "can come" instead of "can comes", Swedish uses kan komma instead of kan kommer.
Do I need to use the word att (to) before komma?
No. After modal verbs like kan, vill (want to), or måste (must), you use the bare infinitive without att. This is exactly like English, where you say "can come" and not "can to come".
How do we know this is a question and not a statement?
The word order tells us! By swapping the subject and the verb to put Kan first, it becomes a yes/no question. If it were a regular statement, the subject would come first: Du kan komma snart (You can come soon).
Can I put snart (soon) at the very beginning of the sentence?
You could, but it would change the sentence type! If you say Snart kan du komma, you are making a statement meaning "Soon you can come". To keep it a question, the verb Kan needs to stay in the very first position.
