Questions & Answers about Seguimos mejorando nuestra resistencia y nuestro ritmo.
Why do we use mejorando instead of the infinitive mejorar after seguimos?
In English, you can say "we continue to improve" (infinitive) or "we keep improving" (-ing). But in Spanish, the verbs seguir and continuar must always be followed by the gerund (the -ando or -iendo form) when you mean "to keep doing" an ongoing action. You cannot say seguimos mejorar.
Could I use continuamos instead of seguimos in this sentence?
I noticed seguimos can also be the past tense. Does this sentence mean "we keep" or "we kept"?
It can actually be either! For -ir verbs like seguir, the nosotros form is exactly the same in both the present tense (seguimos, "we keep") and the preterite past tense (seguimos, "we kept"). Out of context, it is usually assumed to be the present, but if you were telling a story about the past, this exact sentence would mean "We kept improving".
Why does the sentence use both nuestra and nuestro?
