Learn Spanish (Latin America): ¡Ven acá!

Ven is the irregular affirmative command form for tú (informal "you"). It comes from the verb venir (to come). Instead of following the normal rules for making commands, venir has this special, short form.

Why use acá instead of aquí?

Both mean "here," and they are often used interchangeably. However, in Latin America, acá is especially popular when talking about motion or direction, like telling someone to come "over here," while aquí is slightly more common for a fixed location.

Is there a trick to remembering ven alongside the other irregular commands?

Yes! A popular memory trick for the eight irregular tú commands is the English phrase "Vin Diesel has ten weapons" (Ven, di, sal, haz, ten, ve, pon, sé). Ven is the very first one in that list!

Should I include the word tú before the command?

You usually leave tú out. Because the command form already implies who you are talking to, adding tú (like ¡Tú ven acá!) sounds unnatural unless you want to heavily emphasize or single out that person.
