Why is "twenty-eight" written as one word, veintiocho?
In Spanish, numbers from 16 to 29 are written as a single word. To make them, you take the base word for twenty (veinte), change the final -e to an -i-, and add the single digit. So, veinte + y + ocho squeezes together to become veintiocho.
Does treinta combine into one word like veintiocho if I want to say a number like "thirty-one"?
No, the spelling rules change once you hit 30! From 31 to 99, numbers are written as three separate words connected by y (and). For example, "thirty-one" is treinta y uno. Only the teens and twenties are mashed into a single word.
Why is it Cuántos días and not Cuántas días since días ends in an "a"?
Even though it ends in "-a", día (day) is a rule-breaking masculine word. Because it is masculine and plural, the question word "how many" must match its gender and number, which gives us the masculine plural cuántos.
Why does the Spanish sentence use tiene (does it have) instead of "are there"?
