In Spanish, the verb gustar literally means "to be pleasing to." So this sentence is really saying "Sweets are pleasing to us." Because the things that are pleasing (los dulces) are plural, the verb has to be in the plural form, gustan.

Why do we use nos here instead of nosotros for "we"?

Because of how gustar works, "we" aren't actually doing the action, the sweets are! Nos means "to us". So nos gustan means "they are pleasing to us". You would only use nosotros if you added a nosotros at the beginning for extra emphasis: A nosotros nos gustan los dulces.

Why is the word los included? In English, we just say "We like sweets," not "We like the sweets."

In Spanish, when you talk about a noun in a general sense, like liking sweets in general, you must include the definite article (el, la, los, or las). Since dulces is masculine and plural, we need los.
