Questions & Answers about Я больше не хочу терпеть эти трудности и неудобства.
This lesson is about the word приходится. How would I change this sentence to say "I no longer have to put up with these difficulties"?
You would change the subject "I" to the Dative case (мне) and use the impersonal verb приходится. The new sentence would be: Мне больше не приходится терпеть эти трудности и неудобства.
Why is больше не placed before the verb, unlike English where "anymore" goes at the end?
In Russian, the adverb больше (more) combines with не to mean "no longer" or "not anymore." This phrase usually goes directly before the verb it modifies, so больше не хочу is the most natural and expected word order in Russian.
Why use the imperfective verb терпеть here instead of a perfective equivalent?
The speaker is talking about the continuous, ongoing state of enduring something, rather than a single completed event. Furthermore, when you say you "don't want" to do something (не хочу), Russian strongly prefers the imperfective aspect to emphasize that you are rejecting the action entirely.
What case is эти трудности и неудобства, and why didn't the endings change?
They are in the Accusative case because they are the direct objects of the verb терпеть. Because they are plural and inanimate (non-living concepts), their Accusative endings are identical to their Nominative (dictionary) plural endings.
