Questions & Answers about Я не люблю забирать посылки из офиса.
Why do we use из here instead of от to mean from?
The preposition из is used when you are taking something out of an enclosed space. It pairs with в (in). Because you go into an office (в офис), you take a parcel out of it (из офиса). You would use от if you were receiving something from a person or moving away from the outside of something.
What case is офиса and why is the ending -а?
It is in the Genitive case, which is always required after the preposition из. Since офис is a masculine noun ending in a consonant, we add -а to form the Genitive singular.
Why use the imperfective verb забирать instead of the perfective забрать?
When you talk about things you generally like or dislike doing using verbs like любить (to like), you must follow them with an imperfective verb. This sentence describes a general, everyday preference, so we use the imperfective забирать.
Why is посылки (parcels) in this form if it is the direct object?
It is the direct object, so it is in the Accusative case. However, for inanimate plural nouns (things, not people or animals), the Accusative form is identical to the basic Nominative plural form. The singular is посылка, and the plural is посылки.
