Questions & Answers about Я часто работаю в моём кабинете.
Why does the word for "my" change to моём here?
Because it is describing кабинете (office), which is in the prepositional case. When you talk about a location using в (in), both the noun and the possessive pronoun describing it must take prepositional endings. For the masculine word мой (my), the prepositional ending is -ём.
Why is it кабинете instead of кабинет?
The dictionary form of the word for office or study is кабинет. Because you are stating where an action takes place, you use the preposition в (in) followed by the prepositional case. For most masculine nouns ending in a consonant, you form this case by adding -е to the end.
Is the letter ё in моём always stressed?
Yes! In Russian, whenever a word contains the letter ё, the spoken stress always falls on that exact syllable. The word is pronounced mah-YOM.
Why does the adverb часто (often) come before the verb?
In Russian, adverbs of frequency like часто (often), редко (rarely), and всегда (always) usually go right before the verb they describe. This is very similar to how we naturally say "I often work" in English!
