The Continuous Particle tot
When you want to express that someone "keeps doing" something or that an action happens repeatedly, use the adverbial particle tot.
Simply place tot directly before the verb.
| The roommate keeps being late. | Colegul de apartament tot întârzie. |
If the verb has a reflexive pronoun, tot goes before the pronoun.
| She keeps complaining about the cold. | Ea tot se plânge de frig. |
Annoying Roommate Habits
Living with roommates provides plenty of opportunities to use tot. You can use it to describe habits that are annoying (enervant), like snoring (sforăi) or leaving things in the sink (chiuveta).
| He keeps snoring at night. | El tot sforăie noaptea. |
| Why do you keep leaving the plates in the sink? | De ce tot lași farfuriile în chiuvetă? |
| It is annoying that he keeps forgetting his keys. | Este enervant că tot uită cheile. |
Messes, Trouble, and Selfishness
When a roommate is selfish (egoist), they might cause an inconvenience (deranjul) and make a mess (dezordinea). Notice how tot pairs naturally with these repetitive behaviors.
| She keeps making a mess in the room. | Ea tot face dezordine în cameră. |
| My selfish roommate keeps eating my food. | Colegul meu egoist tot mănâncă mâncarea mea. |
| He keeps causing trouble in the apartment. | El tot face deranj în apartament. |
