Questions & Answers about O tio Pedro faz anos amanhã.
Why is there an O before tio Pedro?
In Portuguese, you almost always use a definite article (o or a) before a person's name or title when you are talking about them. Since Uncle Pedro is male, we use o. If you were talking directly to him, you would drop the o.
Why does it say faz anos instead of using the word for birthday?
The sentence is about tomorrow (amanhã), so why is the verb faz in the present tense?
Just like in English, Portuguese often uses the present tense to talk about scheduled events happening in the near future. Because the sentence includes the future time word amanhã, the present tense faz is perfectly clear and natural to use here.
Why isn't tio capitalized?
In Portuguese, family titles like tio (uncle) or mãe (mother) are not capitalized when they come before a name. This is different from English, where we write 'Uncle Pedro' with a capital U.
