Why is "with us" written as one word, connosco?
In Portuguese, when the preposition com (with) is combined with certain pronouns, it merges into a special single word. Here, com combined with nós (us) becomes connosco. Notice that in European Portuguese it is spelled with a double 'n' (connosco), which is different from the single 'n' spelling used in Brazil.
Why is there a de after temos?
The verb ter means "to have", but when you want to express an obligation like "have to do something", you must use the set phrase ter de followed by an action word. So, temos de convidar exactly translates to "we have to invite".
In English we say "have lunch" (two words), but here it's just one word. How does that work?
In Portuguese, eating a meal is often expressed as a single action verb rather than combining "to have" or "to eat" with a noun. You simply use the verb almoçar (to have lunch). The same rule applies to dinner with the verb jantar.
Why aren't convidar and almoçar conjugated here?
