Questions & Answers about Setembro e outubro não são meses frios.
Why isn't outubro capitalized?
Unlike in English, months of the year in Portuguese are not capitalized unless they start a sentence. Here, Setembro gets a capital letter because it is the first word, but outubro remains lowercase.
How do we get meses from the singular word for month?
The singular word for month is mês. In Portuguese, words that end in a consonant like -s, -r, or -z usually form their plural by adding -es. Notice that the word also loses its accent mark when it becomes meses.
Why use são (from ser) instead of estão (from estar) if weather changes?
Why does frios come after meses, and why does it have an -s?
In Portuguese, adjectives (describing words) almost always come after the noun they describe, so "cold months" becomes meses frios. Furthermore, adjectives must match the noun in gender and number. Since meses is masculine and plural, the adjective takes the masculine plural form frios.
