Questions & Answers about Jak ona ryzykuje! To taka odważna akrobatka!
Why do we use Jak in the first sentence instead of Jaka?
Jak is used here because it modifies the verb ryzykuje (she risks). When you exclaim about an action (a verb) or an adverb, you use the unchangeable word jak (how). You would only use jaka (what a) if it were directly modifying a feminine noun, like Jaka ryzykantka! (What a risk-taker!).
In the second sentence, could we say tak odważna akrobatka instead of taka odważna akrobatka?
No, because odważna akrobatka is a noun phrase (an adjective plus a noun). When emphasizing a noun or a noun phrase, you must use the adjective-like word taki (which changes to the feminine taka here). You only use tak (so) when modifying just an adjective or an adverb on its own, for example: Ona jest tak odważna! (She is so brave!).
Why does the second sentence start with To instead of Ona jest (She is)?
Using To followed by a noun phrase in the nominative case is a very natural way in Polish to introduce or identify someone. While you could technically say Ona jest taką odważną akrobatką! (using the instrumental case for the occupation), the structure with To plus the nominative case keeps it punchy and is extremely common in everyday exclamations.
What is the infinitive form of the verb ryzykuje, and how is it formed?
