Questions & Answers about Nasz sprzęt ma mało funkcji, natomiast wasz jest bardzo nowoczesny.
How does natomiast work here, and could I use jednak instead?
Natomiast directly compares two different things (our equipment vs. your equipment) to highlight a contrast, translating perfectly to whereas or while. Jednak (however) is usually for unexpected contrasts or contradictions (for example, if the equipment had few features but was surprisingly expensive). Because you are simply drawing a direct comparison between two subjects here, natomiast is the most natural choice.
Why do we use funkcji instead of the basic plural funkcje?
The word mało (few or little) is a quantifier. In Polish, quantifiers force the noun that follows them into the genitive case. Because we are talking about plural features, the feminine noun funkcja takes its genitive plural form, which is funkcji.
Why does the second half of the sentence just say wasz instead of wasz sprzęt?
Just like in English where you can say yours instead of repeating your equipment, Polish lets you drop the noun if it is obvious from the context. The possessive pronoun wasz stays in the masculine singular form to grammatically match the hidden word sprzęt.
Is sprzęt singular or plural in this sentence?
It is singular, which you can see from the singular verb ma and the singular modifier nasz. In English, equipment is an uncountable concept, but in Polish, sprzęt is a standard masculine noun. While it can be made plural, it is most often used in the singular to describe a collection of gear or devices.
