Contrast connectors (jednak, natomiast)

Talking About Electronics

When discussing a new smartphone (smartfon) or piece of equipment (sprzęt), you will often weigh its design (wygląd) against its quality (jakość) or features (funkcja). You can describe how well these devices work with adjectives like efficient (wydajny) and durable (trwały).

Expressing "However" with jednak

To introduce a drawback or an unexpected point, use jednak (however). It can appear at the beginning of the second clause (right after the comma) or shift later into the sentence for a natural flow.

I am thinking about a new smartphone; however, this model is very expensive.
This device has many features; however, it works very slowly.
I don't like this model; however, its design is great.

Expressing "Whereas" with natomiast

To directly contrast two distinct things, subjects, or situations, use natomiast (whereas / on the other hand). While jednak often weighs the pros and cons of the same item, natomiast puts two different items or aspects side by side.

This laptop has a great design, whereas its quality is bad.
My old computer is durable, whereas this new one is more efficient.
Mój stary komputer jest trwały, natomiast ten nowy jest wydajniejszy.

Weighing Pros and Cons

Mix these connectors with your new vocabulary to debate the strengths and weaknesses of different models.

Our equipment has few features, whereas yours is very modern.
This phone is efficient; however, the battery is not too durable.
What do you think about this model? It is more expensive; however, it looks great.
Co myślisz o tym modelu? Jest droższy, jednak świetnie wygląda.
