The Anterior Participle with -łszy
In the previous lesson, you learned to express "having done [X]" using the suffix -wszy for verbs ending in a vowel.
For perfective verbs whose past tense stems end in a consonant, the rule changes slightly. To form the adverbial anterior participle, take the masculine 3rd-person singular past tense (which ends in a consonant + ł) and add -szy.
- wejść (to enter) -> wszedł -> wszedłszy (having entered)
- uciec (to escape) -> uciekł -> uciekłszy (having escaped)
- znaleźć (to find) -> znalazł -> znalazłszy (having found)
As always, this form is invariable, and the hidden subject of the participle must be the exact same as the subject of the main clause. These formal structures are frequently used in official reporting and news broadcasting to sequence events.

Formal Reporting Vocabulary
When detailing investigations, officials describe incidents (zdarzenie), fires (pożar), and eyewitnesses (naoczny świadek). They often issue statements (wypowiedź) or confirmations (potwierdzenie), which may be nieoficjalny (unofficial) or wstępny (preliminary).
