Usages of byouki

彼かれ　は　重おもい　病びょう気き　に　かかって　います。kare ha omoi byouki ni kakatte imasu.
He came down with a serious illness.
彼かの女じょ　の　祖そ母ぼ　は　心こころ　の　病びょう気き　を　持もって　いました。kanozyo no sobo ha kokoro no byouki wo motte imasita.
Her grandmother had a heart disease.

Using 持もって　いる suggests that the condition or disease is chronic, whereas かかって　いる is neutral with respect to duration.
