Usages of byouki
彼 は 重い 病気 に かかって います。kare ha omoi byouki ni kakatte imasu.
He came down with a serious illness.
彼女 の 祖母 は 心 の 病気 を 持って いました。kanozyo no sobo ha kokoro no byouki wo motte imasita.
Her grandmother had a heart disease.
Using 持って いる suggests that the condition or disease is chronic, whereas かかって いる is neutral with respect to duration.
ガン は 怖い 病気 です。gan ha kowai byouki desu.
Cancer is a frightening disease.
子供 の 時、 よく 病気 に なりました。kodomo no toki, yoku byouki ni narimasita.
