Usages of byouki

彼かれ　は　重おもい　病びょう気き　に　かかって　います。kare wa omoi byouki ni kakatte imasu.
He came down with a serious illness.
彼かの女じょ　の　祖そ母ぼ　は　心こころ　の　病びょう気き　を　持もって　いました。kanojo no sobo wa kokoro no byouki o motte imashita.
Her grandmother had a heart disease.

Using 持もって　いる suggests that the condition or disease is chronic, whereas かかって　いる is neutral with respect to duration.

ガン　は　怖こわい　病びょう気き　です。gan wa kowai byouki desu.
Cancer is a frightening disease.
子こ供ども　の　時とき、　よく　病びょう気き　に　なりました。kodomo no toki, yoku byouki ni narimashita.
I used to get sick often when I was a child.
彼かれ　は　体からだ　が　丈じょう夫ぶな　ので、　病びょう気き　に　ならない。kare wa karada ga joubuna node, byouki ni naranai.
