Questions & Answers about Hai quattro chiavi.
Why doesn't quattro change its ending to match the plural noun?
Unlike most adjectives, cardinal numbers like quattro (four) don't change their endings to match the gender or number of the noun they describe. They stay exactly the same. The only exception is the number one (uno), which does change based on the noun.
Why is the plural of key chiavi instead of chiave?
The singular word for key is chiave. Even though it is a feminine noun, it ends in -e rather than the typical -a. In Italian, all nouns that end in -e in the singular change to -i in the plural, regardless of whether they are masculine or feminine.
How do you pronounce the word hai?
The letter H is always completely silent in Italian. You pronounce hai exactly like "ai" (which sounds just like the English word "eye").
Where is the word for "you" in this sentence?
In Italian, you usually leave out subject pronouns like tu (you) because the verb form already tells you who the subject is. Since hai specifically means "you have", adding tu is unnecessary unless you want to add special emphasis.
