Why do we use questa instead of questo?
Questa means "this". It ends in an "a" because it must match the gender of the noun it points out. Since macchina is a feminine noun, we use the feminine form questa. If we were pointing out a masculine noun, we would use questo.
Why is the color written as rossa rather than rosso?
Just like questa, adjectives in Italian change their endings to match the noun they describe. Because macchina is a feminine word, the basic masculine adjective rosso changes to the feminine form rossa.
