Why is the word for three þrjár here instead of þrír or þrjú?
In Icelandic, the numbers 1 to 4 change to match the gender and case of the noun they count. Pönnukökur (pancakes) is a feminine noun, and because it is the direct object being wanted, it is in the accusative case. The feminine accusative form of three is þrjár.
Why do we use tvö for the strawberries?
Jarðarber (strawberry) is a neuter word. Since it's also a direct object receiving the action of the verb, we need the neuter accusative form for the number two, which is tvö.
Why doesn't the word jarðarber change its ending to show there is more than one?
In Icelandic, neuter words that end in a consonant often look exactly the same in the plural as they do in the singular! Because ber (berry) is neuter, jarðarber means both one strawberry and multiple strawberries. The number tvö is our main clue that it is plural here.
The verb is vill (wants). Why doesn't it have a normal regular ending like talar or lærir?
