Questions & Answers about Bróðir minn er alltaf mjög montinn.
How would I change this sentence to say my brother is 'by far the most boastful,' using the prefix being taught in this lesson?
You would change mjög montinn to the superlative form and attach the prefix lang-. The masculine nominative superlative of montinn is montnastur, so the sentence would become Bróðir minn er alltaf langmontnastur.
Why is the possessive pronoun placed after the noun (Bróðir minn) instead of before it?
In Icelandic, possessive pronouns normally follow the noun, which remains indefinite in this structure. Placing the pronoun first (minn bróðir) is grammatically correct but adds heavy emphasis, as if you are specifically stressing 'MY brother (not yours).'
Since montinn ends in -inn, does it follow standard adjective declension?
Adjectives ending in -inn have a slightly distinct pattern where the -i- often drops out in other cases, and the ending changes based on gender. If you were talking about your sister, the feminine form would be mjög montin, and for a neuter noun, it would be mjög montið.
