Questions & Answers about Liðsfélaginn okkar veit svarið, er það ekki?
Why does the question tag use er það ekki instead of a verb that matches veit?
In English, question tags change to match the main verb and subject (doesn't he, aren't they, have we). In Icelandic, the phrase er það ekki (meaning is it not?) is a universal tag. You can attach it to the end of almost any statement to ask for confirmation, regardless of the specific verb or subject used in the sentence.
Why does liðsfélaginn have the definite article -inn when it is followed by the possessive okkar?
In Icelandic, when a possessive word like minn, þinn, or okkar comes directly after a noun, that noun must take the definite suffix. It literally translates to the teammate our. If you put the possessive first, which is less common and more formal, the noun drops the article: okkar liðsfélagi.
Could I use þekkir instead of veit for the word knows in this sentence?
No, because the verb vita (which becomes veit here) is used specifically for knowing facts or pieces of information, like an answer. The verb þekkja is used when you are acquainted with a person, a place, or familiar with a complex topic.
