Questions & Answers about Þessi rússíbani er miklu brattari, svo við munum örugglega öskra!
Why do we use miklu here instead of mjög?
When you want to say 'much more' or 'a lot more' with a comparative adjective like brattari (steeper), Icelandic uses the dative case to show the amount of difference. Miklu is the dative form of mikill (much/great). You cannot use the standard word for 'very' (mjög) with comparatives.
Why does brattari end in -ari?
The suffix -ari is the standard way to form the comparative of most adjectives, just like adding '-er' in English. It changes brattur (steep) into brattari (steeper). Because rússíbani is a masculine noun, the comparative adjective takes the masculine/feminine ending -ari (rather than the neuter -ara).
Where does the word rússíbani come from?
It literally translates to 'Russian track'. This is a common way to say 'roller coaster' in many European languages, referring to the 17th-century Russian ice slides that originally inspired the rides!
Why use munum (will) here when Icelandic usually uses the present tense for the future?
While the regular present tense often handles future events, the auxiliary verb munu is used here to express a strong prediction or expectation. Combined with örugglega (definitely), it emphasizes that our screaming is absolutely guaranteed to happen.
