What does the first czy mean at the start of the sentence?
At the beginning of a sentence, czy is a question particle. It signals that the whole sentence is a yes/no question.
So:
- Czy jakiś kandydat... ? = Is/Does any candidate... ?
In English, we usually make this kind of question by changing word order, for example Does any candidate... ? In Polish, you often keep normal word order and simply add czy.
