Questions & Answers about Δεν μπορώ να μείνω άλλο στο γραφείο.
Δεν is the standard negation word used before verbs in Modern Greek. It means not.
So:
- μπορώ = I can
- δεν μπορώ = I cannot / I can’t
In Greek, δεν usually goes directly before the verb phrase it negates, so Δεν μπορώ is the normal way to say I can’t.
In Modern Greek, verbs like μπορώ (I can) are followed by να before another verb.
So the pattern is:
- μπορώ να + verb
Examples:
- Μπορώ να φύγω = I can leave
- Μπορώ να μιλήσω = I can speak
- Μπορώ να μείνω = I can stay
You cannot normally omit να here. It is a basic part of Greek grammar after many verbs of wanting, being able, trying, needing, etc.
