Questions & Answers about Die neue Stelle bringt viel Verantwortung mit sich.
Why does the sentence use mit sich instead of just bringt?
The verb here is actually the fixed expression etwas mit sich bringen, which translates to "to entail," "to involve," or "to bring about." While bringen just means "to bring," adding mit sich (literally "with itself") shows that the responsibility is an unavoidable consequence of the new position.
Why do we use the reflexive pronoun sich instead of ihr (it) after the preposition mit?
Even though die Stelle is a feminine noun, we use sich because it is the subject of the sentence. In German, whenever a pronoun after a preposition refers back to the third-person subject of the same clause, you must use the reflexive pronoun sich rather than a standard personal pronoun like ihr or ihm.
Why is it viel Verantwortung without any adjective ending, rather than viele Verantwortung?
Verantwortung (responsibility) is used here as an uncountable noun, just like in English. When viel means "much" or "a lot of" and is used with uncountable, singular nouns, it does not take any grammatical endings. You only add endings for countable, plural nouns, like in viele Stellen (many positions).
What is the difference between using die Stelle and der Job in this context?
They mean almost the exact same thing, but die Stelle translates more closely to "the position" or "the post." It sounds slightly more formal and professional than der Job, which is the standard everyday word for "the job."
