Why do we use que instead of comme to say 'as' here?
When expressing 'the same as', French always uses the structure le même / la même [noun] que. You use comme for 'like' or 'as' in general comparisons, but the word même must always be paired with que.
Why is it toi and not tu at the end?
In French comparisons, the pronoun that comes after que must be a stressed pronoun (also called a disjunctive pronoun). Therefore, the subject pronoun tu becomes toi.
I thought poêle was a masculine word. Why is it la même poêle?
The word poêle has two different meanings depending on its gender. As a feminine noun (une poêle), it means 'a frying pan'. As a masculine noun (un poêle), it means 'a stove' or 'a room heater'.
How on earth do you pronounce poêle?
Despite its strange spelling with the circumflex and the 'e', poêle is pronounced exactly the same as the word poil (hair). It sounds similar to the ending of étoile (star).
Why use J'aimerais instead of Je veux?
