Why isn't there a word for 'for' after attend?
The verb attendre means 'to wait for' all by itself. Unlike English, you don't use a preposition like pour after it. Also, be careful: attendre is a false friend! It means 'to wait', not 'to attend'.
Why do we say chauffeur du bus instead of bus chauffeur?
French doesn't let you put two nouns directly together to describe something like English does. You have to connect them with de (of). So, you are literally saying 'the driver of the bus'. Because bus is masculine (le bus), de and le combine into du.
Why does the verb attend end in a 'd' here?
attendre is a regular verb ending in -RE. To conjugate it for he, she, or it (like le chauffeur), you drop the -RE from the infinitive and don't add any extra ending. This leaves the letter 'd' at the end of the word.
Do I need to make a special sound between les and enfants?
Yes! Because enfants starts with a vowel, you must make a mandatory liaison. The 's' in les connects to the 'e' in enfants, making a 'z' sound. It is pronounced like les Zenfants.
